Using Decorations to Draw Kids to God

Using Decorations to Draw Kids to God

I remember reading the book  Making Your Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kids Week when I first starting in Children's Ministry (seven years ago!).  I loved that the author and her team were so invested in creating a quality program for the kids -- one that shone with excellence and communicated "We Value Kids" to the families who attended church.  I don't remember the details of the book (it was seven years ago), but I know one way to really create excitement is through decorations. … [Read more...]

Best Friends and Mean Girls (Book Review)

Best Friends and Mean Girls (Book Review)

Ever since reading her book, And The Bride Wore White, I've been a huge fan of Dannah Gresh.   I read her book seven years ago and have continued to be amazed at the beacon of light Dannah serves to young girls and women.  Combatting a culture that exalts girls with the best bodies, skimpiest clothes, and meanest attitudes, Dannah sets the record straight when it comes to true womanhood.  I was very pleased to take a look at her new book, Best Friends and Mean Girls.   Dannah's writing … [Read more...]

Story Time in the Park: Our Favorite Books

Story Time in the Park: Our Favorite Books

It is nearing the end of Story Time (sad!), and we decided to pull out a few of our own childhood favorites to share with the kids in the park.  It was tough deciding a favorite, especially since had used so many favorites in previous weeks, but we finally settled on a few. SONGS For song time, we did some old classics like such as: Open Close Them Wheels on the Bus If You're Happy and You Know It Eensy Weensy Spider The kids really enjoy these classic songs and even young kids … [Read more...]

We are AWANA Cubbies!

We are AWANA Cubbies!

I opened my front door to see a giant "Blogger Box" on my front porch.  I'm always a fan of packages, but this one was an exceptionally fun surprise.  I quickly cut open the box to find a myriad of treasures inside. As you can see, my own two children were perched on the edge waiting to get their hands on the goodies!  This box was filled with puppets, a curriculum book, shirts, badges, large story pictures, postcards, and more!  Here's a few more pictures to show you the goods! Isn't that … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday! {Construction Theme Party}

Happy Birthday! {Construction Theme Party}

Last week, we celebrated my son's birthday.  The little Monkey turned two years old and I am so thankful for the gift God gave me with him.   He's active, funny, and always entertaining to be around.  For the party this year, we decided to go with a construction theme.  Since this month's theme in 252Basics is "Some Assembly Required", I thought it might be a good time to share! We started with construction tape and taped off the cupboards.  I picked up a bunch of construction themed books … [Read more...]

Story Time in the Park: Dinosaurs

Story Time in the Park: Dinosaurs

DINOSAUR DAYS! I was especially excited about this story time in the park because it featured DINOSAURS!  My kids are both pretty crazy about dinosaurs and the kids at the park seemed to love them too!    I checked out quite a few dinosaur books from the library, but I had to narrow it down to two or three (books listed below).  For song time, I would have loved to sing the song "Dinosaur Walk", but it was a little too complicated for Story Time.  If you do a dinosaur theme at home, be sure to … [Read more...]
