We’ve been having a great time this year so far with homeschooling and even though my kids are only in Preschool and Kindergarten, I’m starting to get a real feel for the kind of commitment homeschooling involves (and getting a little nervous in the process!).
Last week, we stepped away from the desks for a bit for some button fun with Pete the Cat. The first thing we did was read this super hilarious book about a cat loosing his buttons.
Then we brought out the buttons. I grabbed a set at JoAnn fabrics (use a 40% off coupon!) and they were the perfect size for little hands. We assigned a color to each child and sorted the buttons out.
I had the kids stack them in a pile and compare piles to guess who had the most buttons.
After guesses were made, we actually counted the buttons, lining them up along the ground and charting our answers.
How many buttons are there?
Needless to say, the kids were shocked to find that everyone had the same number of buttons!
I let the kids select four groovy buttons (any color) and I printed some Pete the Cat coloring pages so we could wrap up our button day with this fun project:
