Can We Talk About It? {Intersect DVD Review}

Can We Talk About It? {Intersect DVD Review}

Do you ever wish that you could have deeper conversations about how God fits into “real life”?  Do you sometimes feel that what you’re learning in church is sometimes too hard to apply in real life?

Life gets hard at times and it’s easy to spit out Christian platitudes without really examining how God fits into our every day living.  It’s easy to say that we trust God with our lives, but are we really trusting Him when it comes to our expectations, disappointments, and lack of control?

Intersect

These questions hit me right between the eyes as I was watching the Intersect DVD last night.  I do love Jesus, but sometimes I live my life like I hardly know him at all.   It’s as if God and I are walking along two parallel paths — we’re headed in the same direction, but there’s not much interaction.  That’s not the way it’s supposed to be. We’re supposed to intersect.

And I want to intersect.

But sometimes I’m so busy just trying to keep my head above water that I forget what my life is really about.  This DVD helped remind that God’s design was for a involved and meaningful relationship between Himself and His followers.   At this season in my life, I really needed the reminder.

Maybe you do too?

I really like this DVD series because it’s authentic and down to earth.  After each vignette, there is some “food for thought” about God, Christianity, and the big questions in life (there is also a discussion booklet for small groups).   It is a great resource for Christians to regain perspective and would also serve as a wonderful way to open the door to spiritual conversations with people who are not yet followers of Christ.   I would definately recommend it!

My only complaints would be —

  • I wish the videos were a little longer.  Generally, this would be used as a small group resource, which probably meets for an hour.  Each video is only about 5 minutes long and the group may have a hard time filling up the rest of the time with discussion.
  • The setting is the UK and I would have loved to see it set in America  — would have just felt a little “closer to home”.

More about the DVD:

Follow the journey of five individuals as they tell authentic stories of circumstances that have forced them to examine how God might fit into their lives.

This five-week small group resource helps spark spiritual conversations. Starting spiritual conversations with those outside of the church is a worthy, yet often difficult and intimidating task. Intersect was designed to help overcome those barriers. It is an easy-to-use resource, perfect for sharing with co-workers, friends, neighbors, and family to enter into meaningful conversations.

Each film is accompanied by thought-provoking questions designed to encourage participants to examine the world in which they live and the life they are pursuing, always ending with a conversation on how Jesus intersects the current topic. Allow this powerful new film resource to engage those you are in relationship with and then propel them forward in their next step with Jesus.
