This week, I’m headed to The Gathering conference in Chicago sponsored by David C. Cook. I’m thrilled to be hearing from some incredible speakers including Mike Erre, Albert Tate, and Megan Fate-Marshman and can’t wait to connect with some of the other bloggers there! Be sure to stay tuned for live tweeting and updates from the conference.
Back on the home front, the team will be focusing on Daniel in our Journey through the Old Testament. I just signed up for the Superbook DVD Club (very excited!) and now have access to plenty of great videos including one entitled, Roar, all about Daniel. We’ll start the night out with this video (about 20 minutes long) and then head off to small groups. Check out a preview of the Roar video below:
Daniel Crafts and Activities (for Small Groups)
In the video, there is a part where Daniel teaches the girl to pray, so I thought I’d include a few prayer based activities as well as lion based activities and crafts.
Prayer Crafts and Activities
Oriental Trading (surprising source!) has 6 prayer activities for kids to do, including making a prayer box to put requests into. Read all about it here.
This is an experience we did quite a few years back in our Children’s Ministry. We repeated the idea again in Children’s church a few months ago and the kids loved it. Read all about it here or get our Pictures for Prayer Cards here.
Prayer Lesson from Ministry to Children
This lesson focuses on building a prayer habit as well as elements of prayer. It has some great opening questions as well.
Using old magazines, kids can make a visual list of things to pray for. Read the directions in this Growing Kids Ministry post.
5 Finger Prayer
This is an adaptation from the classic 5 finger prayer. Find the directions in my 31 days of Bible crafts series.
Still want more ideas on prayer? Check out this Pinterest board to get plenty!
Lion’s Den Crafts and Activities
Delightful lion crafts are all over Pinterest (find them here), but I’ll highlight a few of my favorites below.
This adorable lion snack can be found over at Meet the Dubiens. I love that the main piece is an orange! Not exactly a craft, but certainly a work of art!
Paper Plate Lion Mask
This simple craft is great for the younger set. Grab your construction paper, some paper plates and head to Naturally Educational for full directions.
Here’s a fun project that uses a fork for the lion’s mane. This one comes from Crafty Morning.
This craft uses cupcake papers for the mane. Check it out at Blessings Overflowing.
If you think the kids would enjoy reinacting the story, grab these printable masks over at MM printables.
This is a great project to use if you want the kids to retell the story to you. They could make their own mini book or just use it to put the pieces of the story in order. Find it at Sunday School Crafts.
If you want to try something a little different, check out this fun lion pillow made by tying pieces of fleece together. Full directions at Stitched by Janay.
Preschool Pack: Daniel
This is a huge collection of fun from A Moment in Our World. There is sure to be something for the preschool or kindergarten crowd in here!
You can also find a few puzzles for those word lovers in your group.
Coloring, Coloring, Coloring
That’s it for now! Stay tuned for more Bible-based Children’s Ministry fun!
