Ark of the Covenant {31 Days of Bible Crafts}

Ark of the Covenant {31 Days of Bible Crafts}

We did this craft the week we talked about crossing the Jordan river in Children’s Church (Joshua 3), but it would fit a number of passages.  In fact, this week in Kids’ Club, we’re in 2 Samuel 6 (David dances before the Lord) and it would be perfect for that lesson as well!    Based on the description in Exodus 25, we know that the ark was covered in gold.  I wanted to give the ark a bit of sparkle, but we had just used glitter the week before and I didn’t want to push my luck too much with the “I-hate-glitter” crowd.  🙂  So, we opted for star stickers instead.

Ark of the Covenant What You Need:

  • Ark of the Covenant Coloring Page
  • Glitter, Gold Paint, or Stickers

What You Do:

After explaining the importance of the ark of the covenant, have kids decorate the ark so it sparkles and shines.

Older Kid Option: Life Size Version

If you’ve got older kids in your group, take the activity up a notch and build a life-size ark of the covenant. Here’s one I put together quickly, but I bet the kids in your ministry would love to spend a little time making it look terrific.

Ark of the Covenant

For this project, you’ll need:

  • Large box
  • 2 Dowel rods
  • 4 Shower curtain rings
  • Gold spray paint
  • Strong glue (I used hot glue and it seemed to hold… after the third application)

What you do:

Spray paint the box gold (You’ll probably want to do this ahead of time).  Working with the kids, attach the shower rings to the four corners.  Insert dowel rods.  You can also put embellishments on the box with glue (Elmer’s) before you spray paint for a really cool effect.

Snack Option

Check out this amazing snack one of the team members made with her grandkids.  Super fun!  She found the picture on Pinterest, so do some digging around!
