Hey Everyone! For the next two days, I’ll be live blogging from CMLeaders. Right now, Phil Vischer is doing some emcee-ing. Of course, I’m a huge fan of Phil and the work he does with Veggie Tales and What’s in the Bible, so it’s great to hear from him. In fact, I already got a chance to talk with him a little bit (interview write-up coming soon)! Can’t wait to see what else he has in store.
Now, for a giant of a man, Michael Chanley!
The Dream Behind CMLeaders Conference
In his introduction, Michael concedes that yes, while we do a lot of leading children in kidmin, many of the challenges we face as Children’s Ministry leaders comes from leading other adults. He wanted to design an event to address some of these leadership challenges…. an event where we could learn from each other.
Patterns and Wisdom
Children follow the patterns we set as adults. Our own children study and learn from our patterns…our response to daily living. Kids in our churches do the same thing. They watch as we run the kidmin program and they begin to recognize patterns. Studying patterns helps to bring wisdom.
In the same way that children study adults, we should be studying other leaders both in the Children’s Ministry field and beyond.
Our Three Arts of Leadership
At INCM, we started talking about what are the things that really help a leader to shine? We decided on three things: Develop, Lead, Disciple. At this conference, we’ll be working on expanding at each facet. For example, what does it look like to develop your personal calling? How do you develop your own faith walk while you are feeding many others some of the basic truths of Christianity.
- Developing: Walking in faith, developing self, developing others
- Lead: Casting vision, creating strategy, navigating change
- Disciple: Identifying leaders, training them to serve, releasing them to lead
