“It’s basically free”
I can still hear myself at the board meeting: “Yeah, I think we should do the parade. It’s great exposure, and it’s basically free.”
The great exposure part was true. The free part… not so much. Here’s the break down for Pharoah’s River Boat:
Counting the Cost
Oars (garage sale) $2.00
Spray Paint for the oars and tinsel (yes, I had to spray paint the tinsel) $8.00
Tinsel (which I could only find in silver, of course. As such, it needed to be spray painted blue) $27.96
Water for everyone on the float to drink $3.50
Adorable Sun balloon that blew away on our way to the parade route: $3.99
Wood: No idea, because the trustees bought it.
Staples for staple gun: $4.00
Candy from Bulk Foods: $108.78
Paper to print 800 flyers on: No idea, just used the stuff already in the office 
Fabric for costumes (some costuming we had already bought for VBS): $6.00
SUCCESSFUL EGYPTIAN FLOAT: PRICELESS!
