Are you looking for some fun ways to get ready for the 4th of July? Check out these two simple flag craft projects we did a few years back.

Project #1: Construction Paper Flag

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White construction paper
  • Blue construction paper
  • Red construction paper
  • Star stickers
  • Glue, Scissors (or paper cutter)
Here’s what you do:
If you’re working with little ones, cut some red stripes out of the construction paper.  I made mine about 1/2 an inch and that seemed to be a good length.  If you have a paper cutter like mine, just slide the paper to the edge of the cutter and slice away.  This will give you a good width. If you have older kids, they can do this part themselves.

Next, give your child a glue stick and show them how to place the stripes. I did a few examples stripes on my paper to give my two year old an idea of what to do.  If you have older kids, you could just show them the American flag and let them figure out the placement themselves.

Once all the stripes are “in place”, we cut a little blue square out and glued it in the corner.

Now comes the fun part: Stickers!  I just used the standard 4 color star stickers. You can find them in Walmart or any office supply store. Pulling those stickers off is great for fine motor skills!
All done!

Stay tuned tomorrow for flag project #2!
