The days are counting down and we’re getting close close close to Christmas!
In the Whitney house, our tree is up and the bulk of shopping is done. Of course, there are always those hard to buy for people in your life. My nieces and nephew are getting to be teenagers, and I’m often at a loss for what to get them. Creatively packaging money as a gift is only cute for so long.
Our purpose is to lead teen girls into intimacy with Christ, guide them in developing healthy relationships, showcase positive entertainment choices, provide healthy role models and teach positive self-image. We do that through our print magazine, our online community of Christian girls and women, our mobile app and events that we sponsor.
When I received my review copy in the mail, I dove right in. I love the artwork and pictures and the super relevant articles. The issue I read through dealt with identity (pretending to be someone you’re not), thankfulness, understanding Buddhism, and heartbreak . It also featured Holly Starr, worship artist and terrific role model. The articles were well written and at the perfect level for teen readers. I love that the magazine didn’t shy away from tough topics and it had a great balance of serious articles and upbeat ones. I’m impressed. I have to admit, I’m often disappointed by literature aimed at Christian teen girls — it either seems too fluffy, superficial or just out of touch with culture. This was not the case with Sisterhood. This magazine deals with real issues in a Christ-centered and Bible-based way. It even takes Bible stories (in the November/December issue, it was about Deborah, the judge) and dives in deeper to make the Bible really come to life. If you’re searching the perfect gift for a teen girl in your life, check it out!
In the spirit of the season, Sisterhood has offered to give away one FREE subscription to the magazine to one of the readers here on Growing Kids Ministry. (Note: Contest has ended)
