We’ve completed our second week of art in the park and the weather has been wonderful!
It’s so great to see some familiar faces and meet some new friends as well. This last week, we made ladybugs with potatoes, which seemed to be a hit with the crowd. Want to make some of your own?
What You Need:
- Small potato, cut in half
- Red paint
- Black paint
- Black Marker
- Crayons (optional)
- Construction paper (we used this white)
- Paper plate (or something to put paint on)
- Smocks (optional)
What To Do:
(Note: When we were making our sample craft at home, we didn’t have any red paint, oops! Just pretend.)
Begin by pouring a small amount of paint onto a paper plate and moving potato around in it (cut side down).
Make several little lady bug bodies with the potato, leaving room for little black heads later.
Using the q-tip and the black paint, make circles at the end of each body for the head.
Use the q-tip to make little dots all over the ladybug body.
Using a black marker, draw a line up through the body and add two feelers at the front.
You can use the crayons to embellish the picture if you wish. That’s it — enjoy your bug pictures!
