National Lemonade Day! (Lemon Painting) {Preschool Homeschool}

I love a good quirky holiday.  Don’t get me wrong — I delight in the big celebrations like Christmas and Easter, but there is something so delightful in the ridiculous holidays that have become a family tradition around here. Holidays like Cow Appreciation Day, Donut Day, and Lemonade day are some of my personal favorites.

With National Lemonade Day just around the corner (August 20th), I thought I’d share some of our favorite Lemonade recipes as well as a fun activity to do with the kids after all the lemons are squeezed.  You can grab a few more recipes on my Summer Fun Pinterest Board.

What to Do with the Lemons!

Now that you have a multitude of squeezed half lemons, it’s time to make some art with them!

Painting with Lemons

Here’s What You Need:

  • Lemons, cut in half and squeezed free of juice
  • Washable paint (I personally love this Simply Washable Paint)
  • Paper Plates
  • Paper or canvases to paint

Here’s What You Do:

Pour paint onto paper plates, making sure to spread it out a bit.

Lemon Painting

 Encourage kids to dip the lemon half in the paint.  Then, push the lemon onto the paper (we used Amazon packaging paper!) to make a lovely print.

Switch around colors, passing the coordinating lemon along with it, if you want to try and keep your colors from mixing.

You can even use the paper as wrapping paper once it is dry.  Bonus!

Try the lemon painting on different colors as paper to observe the different intensities or details of the print.

I even gave it a try on some water color paper to see the effect.  Pretty fun!

  1. Very cute Lindsey! I almost never buy lemons, but I’m pretty sure my girls would love this… and eating a few too.
