It’s here folks!  My new e-book, Scripture in the Summer, has just launched and I’m so excited for those of you who have already picked it up!  I’m giving away some fun bonus material during Launch Week, so be sure to make your purchase before June 6th if you want to claim your bonuses!

Bonus Materials Include:

  • Five Extra Activities (read one below)
  • Five Hand-lettered verse posters
  • Handwriting pages for all the verses

I wanted to give the readers of Growing Kids Ministry a peek at one of the bonus activities — so you can find that below!

Activity: Plant a Seed

Verse to Learn: 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

Simple Version: I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow

Challenge Version: I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.  So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

What to Do:

There is something so delightful about seeing a little green seedling sprouting up through the dirt.  Summer is a perfect time to try your hand at some tiny gardening projects.  For this project, provide kids with small pots (you could use terra cotta pots or even empty food containers such as yogurt cups).  Have them fill their pots with soil and place 1-2 seeds inside the soil in the pot (some fast sprouting seeds to try are radishes, basil, and bean plants).  Provide seeds with the necessary water and sun and watch as they grow day after day.

Questions to Ask:

  • What does it take to make a seed grow?
  • Can we force a seed to grow?

We know that seeds need soil, water, and sun to grow – but we can’t really cause a seed to grow.  Only God can do that.  We can provide the right environment and give it everything it needs, but we can’t force it to grow.  The same is true for our friends and family when it comes to following Jesus.  We can share the good news of God, bring them to church, and give them all the things they need to grow in their faith, but it’s up to the Holy Spirit to make a person grow.

More Questions to Ask:

  • How does it feel to know God is in charge of making a person grow spiritually?
  • Has anyone planted a spiritual seed in your life?
  • Have you ever planted or watered a spiritual seed in someone else’s life?

Picture Moment: Take a picture of your seedling a few days in a row.  Can you see the growth in the pictures?

Bonus Idea: Head to your local garden center and check out all the amazing plants they have to offer.  Can you find every color of the rainbow?  What is your favorite looking plant or flower?
