Preschool Story Time!
It was another rainy day at Whitford Park last week, but we did have a few friends join us for story time. The theme this week was “favorite foods”, so we started out going around the circle sharing our names and our favorite thing to eat. My son said his favorite food was his gummy vitamins. I’m not sure how to take that. Here’s what the rest of the schedule looked like:
- Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
- If you’re wearing red today… ( Mary had a little lamb Tune)
- Pat a cake
- Five Little Cookies (song/rhyme found below)
For the 5 Little Cookies Song, we put some laminated sugar cookies in the middle of the blanket and then sang/chanted the tune below. For each verse, I said a name and that child took a cookie to hold. The kids really seemed to enjoy it!
Five little cookies in the bakery shop.
Shining bright with the sugar on top.
Along comes _________ with a nickel to pay.
He/She buys a cookie and takes it away.
(continue with four, three, two and one.)
Book to Read:
My favorite food is pizza, so I decided to go with a pizza themed book for story time. I brought in some flour for the kids to touch and before we started reading, we talked about what else we need to do in order to make a pizza. As we were reading the book, I encouraged the kids to answer “Not I!” whenever I pointed to Little Red Hen’s Friends.
Book of the Week:The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza)
For the craft this week, I had precut circles of red (for sauce) and white/yellow (for cheese) for kids to make their own pizza. We started by coloring a paper plate brown (for the crust) and then gluing on the toppings. I also had some small circles for pepperoni and some crayons if kids wanted to draw on their own toppings.

Next week’s theme is Cars and Trucks. Stay tuned for more preschool story time fun!
