What We’re Reading Wednesday {CM LEADERS!}

Tomorrow, bright and early, my husband and I will be climbing into our car and driving out to Grove City, Ohio for the CM Leaders Conference!  I am really looking forward to meeting so many blogger friends in person and also hearing from some fabulous leaders like Phil Vischer, Sam Luce, Larry Fowler, Brain Dollar, Brad Tate and Margaret Feinberg (see the full line up here).

So, for the last two weeks, I’ve been trying to read up on all the speakers.  Since I’m part of the blogger team for CMLeaders, I’m hoping to score a few interviews with these great people.  Here’s what’s been on my reading table lately:

I Blew It by Brian Dollar

When I first saw this book, I thought it’s be a collection of total mess-up moments like throwing a pool party in the baptismal (Doug Fields).  Though it did have a few fabulous accounts of oops-moments, this book cut right to the heart of many ministry mistakes such as pride, seeking approval, and not supporting your pastor.  I was deeply humbled as I read this book and really convicted about some of the attitudes I’ve been harboring lately.  I’ve been feeling a little discouraged lately, and this book helped me to see some of the root causes of my situation and pointed me in the right direction to get back on track.  Read it!!

Hungry for God by Margaret Feinberg

I’m about halfway through this book and I love her very honest, simple words.  She doesn’t have any magic solution to getting closer to God, instead she says, “Seeking God looks different for every person, but consistency is essential.”  Hoping to a put some favorite quotes up on the blog soon!

Bo Harrington’s Blog

Bo’s got some really great, honest entries here.  I especially like his latest post about attending an AA meeting.  Head on over and take a look.

Sam Luce’s Blog

I’m a regular reader of Sam’s blog, so this wasn’t anything new this week.  He’s got some great stuff on this blog including free Bible lessons for a number of different books in the Bible, some great book recommendations and some fun object lessons.

The Eric Trap

Wow!  This book is exactly what I needed to read right now.  This is the story of a too-busy Children’s Ministry pastor who needs to get his priorities straight.  This really helped clarify some long-term goals for me.  This is a great book for anyone involved in Kidmin, but especially those who have passed the 5 year mark.

Till Next Week!

Well, that’s it for me!  I started reading “The God I Love” by Joni Erikson Tada and it looked very promising, but I decided to put it back on the shelf till after the conference.
