We’re excited to be starting a new curriculum from Kidology in our Children’s Church program. We’ve got a wide age range (4-9) and I’m always looking for great ways to get the kids really using their Bibles.
My friend Paulette and I have often lamented that there is no good “stepping stone” between a picture Bible and a text Bible and children often get frustrated when they can’t find a memory verse or particular book of their Bible in their picture Bible. While I love picture Bibles for bedtime reading, I was looking for something to give kids a good overview of the Bible without overwhelming them.
When I stumbled upon Stickers Through the Bible, I instantly fell in love with the concept! We just started the curriculum in the new year and it’s a bit of an adjustment, but I’m super excited to see kids getting a sense of the program. I’ll keep you posted, but for now, I wanted to share our introduction letter to the parents. If you’d rather grab it in a word document form, just click here
Here’s the Letter:
Happy New Year! In the spirit of the New Year, we are beginning a brand new curriculum in Children’s Church called Stickers through the Bible. Stickers Through the Bible is a revolutionary concept that allows non-readers and readers alike to navigate the Bible with ease. It is the perfect bridge between a Children’s picture Bible and a full text Bible.
While using this curriculum, kids will learn basic Bible facts and gain an understanding of the overview and flow of God’s Word. The advantages this will give them later in their Christian life are significant; most of all, a love for God’s Word and a desire to be able to read it!
We have bought a standard text Bible for each of the children in class to use throughout this year. Each week, as we cover a new story in the Bible, children will place stickers in their classroom Bible over the stories they are learning about. This is where the name “Stickers through the Bible” comes from. By the end of the year, the children will have a keepsake Bible that is filled with stickers from their journey through the Word of God. If you would like to get a peak at this fun new tool, you are welcome to check out your child’s Bible after class each week. We ask that the Bibles stay in the classroom so that everyone can participate fully each week.
Each week, you will receive a guide so you can join in the process of learning by reading the Bible story again in a fresh way, reviewing it with questions, and using some of the activity suggestions during the week. (After all, parents are the BEST teachers for their children). We hope that this curriculum will provide kids with a love for God’s Word along with the skill needed to dig into the Bible for themselves.
As always, I welcome your feedback. I would love to hear what you think of the curriculum and how it is impacting your children at home.
Thanks so much for all you do!
