We’re back at Whitford Park this summer for more Story Time fun! We’ve got a fresh line up of new stories and a few of our all time favorites mixed in. To see the full list, head to the Story Time and Crafts Line Up post. This last week, our theme was horses.
Songs We Sang:
- Have Hello To Everyone (theme song from Chalk Preschool)
- Clap, Clap, Clap Your Hands
- I Gave My Horse an Apple
- 10 Galloping Horses
- Yankee Doodle
Books We Read:
This book is great for read-aloud time because many of the lines repeat and the print is very large. The kids love this one and especially love the surprise ending.
This is a great book about all kinds of horses. It’s a little long for story time, but the pictures are great and the older preschoolers especially like seeing all the different jobs a horse can do.
This book is really sweet and speaks about the importance of friendship. The kids like Noni and many made their craft to look a bit like this pony.
Craft We Created:
Generally, we read stories and then head to the craft table for a project, but these week, we changed things up a bit to allow for the paint to dry. We made a paper plate horse (idea from Crunchy and Green) for the craft this week.
We had the kids paint two plates, THEN go listen to stories, and then return to the craft table to cut, staple and put the finishing touches on their horses. It seemed to work out great and everyone loved the finished product!
