Monday Minute to Win It: Law and Order

Minute to Win it

There’s some great games in this episode (Season 2, episode 23) of NBC’s Minute to Win It.  Use them for some family fun or in your Children’s and Youth Ministries.

Tilt a Cup

Similar to the original game found in the Summer Edition post.  However, in this episode, the two contestants play as a team, with one bouncing the ball and the other catching in a cup.

Disco Drop

Player leans over a pencil (held solidly in place) and drops CD’s until one lands on the pencil.  This guy nailed in 15 seconds, using only 6 CD’s!  Might be a little tougher for kids, but sounds like a great idea for youth groups.

Marbles Grande

Check out the video for instructions.  This can be played as a team or with just one player and fewer red ping pong balls.

Nutstacker

In this episode, players must work as a team, alternatively stacking 10 metal nuts on top of each other to win.   Besides the open opportunity for players to blame each other for losing, this might actually be a better way to play this game since each player has some time to get their next nut ready while the other stacks.  This power-house team did lose two lives on this game, but I think it’s still worth a try with your kids (just use fewer nuts).

Office Tennis

Check out the instructions in the Minute to Win It Office Edition post. Might be a little tough for younger kids, but preteens and teens should be able to handle it.

That’s it for now, folks.  Now, grab your stop watch and go have some fun!

Monday Minute to Win It: Kids Try This At Home

Minute to Win it

On this episode (Season 2, Episode 22),  a number of contestants compete for the big money!  Check out these games for your family time fun or children’s ministry!

Spare Me

Contestant must drop a marble down a pool noodle, sending it rolling across the floor and knocking down 10 upright markers (which are 16 feet away). Even though this was a level one game, both contestants seemed to have a really hard time with it, losing all three lives right off the bat! Might want to move those markers closer for children’s ministry!

Sticky Balls

In this challenge, the contestant must roll marbles across a flat surface in an attempt to get them to stick to double sided tape at the end of the table.  Too slow, the marble won’t make it.  Too fast, the marble will fall off the table.   This would be especially good for older kids or youth.

Face the Cookie

This is a classic Minute to Win It game we haven’t seen in awhile.  Both contestants have a cookie that they need to move from the forehead to the mouth using only their facial muscles.  They slammed this one out, and quick!  Of course, kids should love this one since it involves Oreos!

Puddle Jumper

Check out the video below for instructions.  This looks like a fun game for kids, as long as they don’t get any crazy ideas with the cups of water!

Egg Roll

Using a pizza box, the contestant must fan three eggs from a starting line to a red box across the playing arena.  Click on the game title for a youtube instruction video.

That’s it for now!

Have fun playing!

Monday Minute to Win It: Couple Show Down

In Season two, Episode 17, two couples go head-to head in this fun episode of Minute to Win it.  This would be a great way to involve more kids in a Minute to Win it event.  Here’s some great kid games to try in your family or children’s ministry:

Paper Dragon:  I’ve described this game in other posts, but this is played as a race between the two teams.  Each team picks a delegate and whoever unwinds their 2 rolls of crepe paper first wins the round for the team.    You could also play with all four team mates racing, and whoever finishes first wins a point for the team.

Tipsy: What kid wouldn’t love drinking soda to win the game?  Might not be a winner with the parents though!    In this game, contestant has to drink just enough of the beverage to balance the soda can on its edge.  Check out the video for a complete picture of the instructions, or click here to see Tipsy in action.

Bouncer: Check out the full instructions in the Perfect Strangers Post.

Bottle Neckin: This one may be pretty tough for kids, but a good challenge for adults.  In this game, contestants have to stack four 2-Liter bottles, matching ends (mouth to mouth, bottom to bottom), making a tower.  In the end, the tower must stand for 3 seconds for the contestant to win.  For kids, you could use those mini-water bottles to make it a bit easier.  This game is similar to Egg Tower from last week’s post.

Paddle Poppers: This game is almost the same as Pong5 from last week’s post, except one person on each team plays and is responsible for knocking over three paddles.  Check the last week’s post for adaptation ideas.

That’s it for now!

Looking for some quick games for family-time fun? Need some filler-activities that require only a few props that you can find around the house? Check out some of these great games from “Show Us the Blueprint” (Season 2, Episode 16).

Dizzy Mummy: Contestant must unroll an entire roll of toilet paper by spinning in circles.  If the toilet paper breaks at any time, the round is over.  On the show, the toilet paper is rigged up on a toilet paper holder, but you could a couple of helpers/spectators hold a roll on a broom stick (or something similiar).

Don’t Blow the Kings: The four kings are face-up under the pile of the rest of the deck of cards on a pedestal.  The object of the game is blow all the other cards off the pedestal without blowing off the kings.  A little tricky, but a great challenge for some of the older kids.

Got Your Back: Check out the video for instructions on this game. The guy on this show nailed it!  In case you don’t have four ping pong paddles laying around, you might also use smaller sized cereal boxes.

Egg Tower: This one is tougher than you might think.  Contestant must make a four-story by alternating eggs and paper towel rolls (empty).  To make this one a bit easier, you could use toilet paper rolls as well.

Pong5: In this game, you have to bounce 5 ping pong balls into a pint cup.   The contestants acted like this one was pretty tough, but the guy nailed it immediately, so it might be a good one to try!

Extreme Mini Stack Attack: In this game, the classic Stack Attack is taken up a notch.  Contestants must use mini cups and must stack the tower with one hand on top of a pizza box they are holding with their other hand!   This may be too tough for the inexperienced player.  Looks hard!!

That’s all for now, folks.  Tune in next Monday for more great games!

For those of you looking for the Blogger Challenge task, we’ll be moving that feature to Tuesdays for a bit so we can highlight Monday Minute to Win It.

Get Moving! (More Christmas Break Fun)

Here’s some fun activities to get your kids up and moving (I’m sure you’ve watched all your Christmas movies at least once by now!).  Ideas are taken from The Activity Book.  Get yourself  a copy for hours of fun!

  • Find that Sound (8 months+): For this game, hide a musical toy while your child isn’t looking and then let her use her ears to discover the toy.
  • Pillow Walk: Throughout the room, pile bed pillows and sofa cushions around the floor.  Have your child jump from pillow to pillow to cross the room.  Have them rearrange the pillows and do it again.
  • Under and Over (18mo+): Play follow the leader (you!) throughout the house, taking care to climb over and under things to help develop large muscle coordination.

Stay tuned for more fun!

Looking for some activities to do with the little ones while they are on Christmas break?  Here’s some great ideas from The Activity Book.

  • My Life Story: Gather photos of your child and important people in her life.  Put the photos in a sturdy photo album, writing captions and names if you’d like.  This a great way for kids to learn the names of distant relatives.  You could also have your child make up a story as they turn the pages of their book, incorporating each person into the story as they go!
  • Dinner Party: Use one of the gift boxes as a table for this pretend game.  Children can make menus out of construction paper and cut pictures from magazines for illustrations.  Serve pretend or real food.
  • Picture Match:  Collect and cut out a number of magazine pictures that can be grouped.  For example, cut out two pictures of dogs, babies, food, houses, cars, etc.  Glue each picture onto an index card and have your child play the game by finding matches of like items.
  • Trace Me: Use a giant sheet of paper (butcher paper or something similiar).  Have your child lie down and then trace his outline.  Have your child color in his face and outfit.  Cut out the form and hang it on his bedroom door. You could also draw a giant Christmas tree and have them decorate it.
  • Butterfly Wings: Fold a piece of white paper in half and then unfold it and place it on the table.  Have your child put a few drops of paint on various colors on the paper (one side of the crease only).  While the paint is still wet, refold the paper and press the two halves together.  Open again and let dry.  Once draw, cut into the shape of wings for a beautiful butterfly!
  • Paper Snowflakes – decorate the house in style, no matter what climate you live in!
