Monday Minute to Win It: Couple Show Down

5549308371_be2631288e

In Season two, Episode 17, two couples go head-to head in this fun episode of Minute to Win it.  This would be a great way to involve more kids in a Minute to Win it event.  Here’s some great kid games to try in your family or children’s ministry:

Paper Dragon:  I’ve described this game in other posts, but this is played as a race between the two teams.  Each team picks a delegate and whoever unwinds their 2 rolls of crepe paper first wins the round for the team.    You could also play with all four team mates racing, and whoever finishes first wins a point for the team.

Tipsy: What kid wouldn’t love drinking soda to win the game?  Might not be a winner with the parents though!    In this game, contestant has to drink just enough of the beverage to balance the soda can on its edge.  Check out the video for a complete picture of the instructions, or click here to see Tipsy in action.

Bouncer: Check out the full instructions in the Perfect Strangers Post.

Bottle Neckin: This one may be pretty tough for kids, but a good challenge for adults.  In this game, contestants have to stack four 2-Liter bottles, matching ends (mouth to mouth, bottom to bottom), making a tower.  In the end, the tower must stand for 3 seconds for the contestant to win.  For kids, you could use those mini-water bottles to make it a bit easier.  This game is similar to Egg Tower from last week’s post.

Paddle Poppers: This game is almost the same as Pong5 from last week’s post, except one person on each team plays and is responsible for knocking over three paddles.  Check the last week’s post for adaptation ideas.

That’s it for now!

Looking for some quick games for family-time fun? Need some filler-activities that require only a few props that you can find around the house? Check out some of these great games from “Show Us the Blueprint” (Season 2, Episode 16).

Dizzy Mummy: Contestant must unroll an entire roll of toilet paper by spinning in circles.  If the toilet paper breaks at any time, the round is over.  On the show, the toilet paper is rigged up on a toilet paper holder, but you could a couple of helpers/spectators hold a roll on a broom stick (or something similiar).

Don’t Blow the Kings: The four kings are face-up under the pile of the rest of the deck of cards on a pedestal.  The object of the game is blow all the other cards off the pedestal without blowing off the kings.  A little tricky, but a great challenge for some of the older kids.

Got Your Back: Check out the video for instructions on this game. The guy on this show nailed it!  In case you don’t have four ping pong paddles laying around, you might also use smaller sized cereal boxes.

Flickr by by Chee Meng Au YongEgg Tower: This one is tougher than you might think.  Contestant must make a four-story by alternating eggs and paper towel rolls (empty).  To make this one a bit easier, you could use toilet paper rolls as well.

Pong5: In this game, you have to bounce 5 ping pong balls into a pint cup.   The contestants acted like this one was pretty tough, but the guy nailed it immediately, so it might be a good one to try!

Extreme Mini Stack Attack: In this game, the classic Stack Attack is taken up a notch.  Contestants must use mini cups and must stack the tower with one hand on top of a pizza box they are holding with their other hand!   This may be too tough for the inexperienced player.  Looks hard!!

That’s all for now, folks.  Tune in next Monday for more great games!

For those of you looking for the Blogger Challenge task, we’ll be moving that feature to Tuesdays for a bit so we can highlight Monday Minute to Win It.

Monday Minute to Win It: Jonas Brother

minute to win

On Episode 11, special guest Kevin Jonas, part of the pop boy band: Jonas brothers, makes an appearance.  Playing for charity, Kevin faces the household elements on NBC’s Minute to Win it  in this old Season one episode.

Nose Dive

Contestant dips nose into petroleum jelly then use this jelly to pick up a cotton ball.  He then has to transfer the cotton ball to another bowl about 3 feet away (no hands!).  Very funny.  I can see kids getting a headache when they are done with this one!

Junk in the Trunk

The game starts with 8 ping pong balls inside an empty tissue box.  The box is tied to contestant’s back and they must jump around in order to get all the balls out of the box in a minute.   Also funny to watch!

Ka-Broom

Check out the video for insturctions.  The Jonas brother played with the plates on top of stools, but I think it would be easier if the plates were on the ground, especially for younger (smaller) kids.

Matchmaker

This is a great one!  Contestant gets 18 MnM’s (6 each of Red, Green, and Yellow) underneath cups.  This was at the $125,000 level, so you might want to use less candies.  Check out Kevin Jonas tearing it up in this game:

Monday Minute to Win It: America’s Heroes

In Episode 26, the season finale of NBC’s hit show Minute to Win It, we get to watch two soldiers with one incredible story play for the big bucks.  Catch it on hulu for yourself.

Sticky Balls

Contestant must rolls marbles down a table in order to get them to stick to double-sided sticky table attached tot he other side of the table.  Seems pretty easy, just make sure you pick up all the stray marbles.  Wouldn’t want any old ladies to step on them!

Spin Doctor

One player flicks a quarter so it spins across a middle line on the table.  The opposite player must stop the coin in an upright position and keep it that way for three seconds.  Sounded really tough to me, but these guys nailed it in 13 seconds.  Of course, they did practice!

Snap, Crackle and Topple

Contestant must set up 13 cereal boxes to create a domino effect. Then they must topple the boxes in order to spill the contents of the last box into a bowl.  Easy set up, easy supplies — but I would leave out the “spilling the contents” part. Seems like a mess to me!  (After you use these cereal boxes, you can use them to make Books of the Bible props for other lessons!)

Marbles Grande

Check out the NFL part one post for instructions on this.

Egg Tower

Using 4 paper towel rolls and 4 raw eggs (I’d hard boil them if I were you!!), contestant must build a tower alternating egg and roll.  Love the sounds of this game!  I might have to try it for myself!

That’s all for now!  Thanks for stopping by!

Monday Minute to Win it: NFL (part 2)

Flickr photo by cthoyes

The deadly duo continues to compete in part two of this football themed show.  Unfortunately, their reign was pretty short lived.  They are eliminated from the game within five minutes and a new cast of characters (two competing football players) are introduced. Here are some games from Episode 25 of NBC’s hit show, Minute to Win It, that you might be able to use for your ministry!

Bucket Head

Intense! Check out the video for instructions.  Tough to do, very funny to watch!   The guys on the show nailed it in 10 seconds.  Of course, they are NFL superstars.  You could always change it to 1-2 times instead of three times (to get the ball in the bucket).

Face the Cookie

These guys must have practice because they chomped those cookies down, using only the muscles in their face in 15 seconds! Check out the video for full instructions.

Hut Hut Hike

In this game, players must long snap not a football, but toilet paper, as if they are tossing it to the quarterback.  Instead of a teammate catching the TP though, there is a hoop contestants must throw the toilet paper through.  They have to do this a total of ten times.  Players go at the same time, so hopefully they don’t crash the flying paper into each other. You could easily have a couple helpers holding a hula hoop as the goal for this one.
